Well, my surgeon appointment went well. He felt the best procedure for me was the RNY like what I've been looking at and for the same reasons I'm looking at getting it done. I asked him about any problems with patients that have sarcoidosis like I do and he has done surgery on patients with this condition and have had no problems develop due to this condition. That made me feel reassured. He told me that after this appointment I am not allowed to gain anymore weight or the surgery would be postponed. I told him I still plan to lose more--hopefully to get below the 300# mark before surgery next year. He thought that was a good and realistic goal. I asked him about the dumping syndrome. He said that most people get some form of it, but there is no guarantee how severe each person would get it. I'm hoping I will have it severely if I eat any sugar. I need that deterent to keep me away from sugar. This is sad, but true. I also asked him about how much bowel is bypassed in the surgery. He told me that it depends on what my BMI is. If it's above 50 at the time of the surgery he will bypass a little more. My BMI when I started this journey was 59 and it is now 54. I'm hoping at the time of surgery I'm below 50. The more bowel bypassed, the more problems you have with vitamin deficiencies and I want to avoid this potential problem in the future. I know that I will need to take vitamins and calcium the rest of my life, but I would have to do that even if I don't have the surgery. I just checked to see what my BMI would be if I weighed 300# and it would be 49.9. This makes me all the more determined to get below 300# before surgery.

I asked about how long I would be out of work. He said approximately 2-3 weeks typically. I'm glad it's only that long. I'm hoping when I go back to work I'm at least on soft food and not on the gross stuff--pureed food--yuk!

I'm glad your appointment with the surgeon went well. I have no doubt that you can get below 300 by the end of the year.
