The first two are important to me as a description of the hedonistic environment we find ourselves in, and why it's hard to tune out.

I value the next two as the un-whitewashed memoirs of two people who, despite a dark inner life, found joy in hard work. The audiobooks are best -- "KC" is read by Bourdain himself, and "Can't Hurt Me" has little "podcasts" after each chapter where Goggins' writing partner (also the reader) interviews him.
