Finding it really tempting to munch today, especially since I'm home and there is a ton of junk in the house. I find it so much harder when I'm living with my parents to eat well. They eat chips and cookies and ice cream, there are donut holes leftover from church and full fat cheese and whole milk. We always have fruit and vegetables but with all the other choices it's that much harder to make the right one. :-( My weight was up this morning and I'm feeling discouraged. Kind of tired and defeated. :-(

Hi, I was just thinking the same thing this weekend. I am living in a mulitgenerational household right now. My parents, my high-school aged son, and myself. (My younger brother and his 3 little ones are with us part-time too) The boys (oops I mean men) are constantly bringing home donuts, and ice cream, cakes, and sourdough bread. They think they are being helpful. It is very very hard some days to walk away from those goodies. The one thing that has helped is that I have offered to do the grocery shopping for everybody. It doesnt always work, but its better. I did things like replace white rice with brown, only buy whole grain breads, nonfat milk and nonfat dairy products. They want ice cream, so I buy nonfat frozen yogurt or sorbets. I dont buy alchol or sodas or really any calorie laden drinks. I try to load up the fridge every two weeks with tons of fruit and vegetables, and snacks that are high fiber, low fat, moderate calories. This strategy doenst always work,,,occasionally someone will come home with a giant pizza, or a big box of donuts....but it no longer an everyday occurence. The biggest bonus of all. My son has lost 20 lbs with out even trying (no more mindlessly eating 2 bags of potato chips) and my father's cholestrol has dropped almost 10 points since the beginning of the year.
