Doing yourselves a disservice if true. I suspect food isn't being weighed and logging is close to non existent on the weekend. You get what you put in. I'm guessing energy levels are pretty terrible. Bodyweight times 10 should put anyone in a heavy deficit. More nutrition would raise subconscious energy levels and you'd lose or maintain just fine with another 800 calories. The extra protein you take in would also help you maintain or gain lean mass. I've seen 120 pound females who eat as many calories as I eat during a cut during maintenance. Cardio is also minimal for them. Just my advice. Take it or leave it.

"I don't count calories" in your profile.....
18 Okt 22 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
I don't count them because I did a 3 week trial and tracked them then. I eat similarly now. If you don't feel like checking out people's diet diaries as proof of what I'm saying, I don't know what else to tell you. What you believe should work just doesn't for most women when they want to weigh around 120-135 lbs. If I want to weigh 155-175, then yeah, I can maintain with 2000/day.

3 weeks, I just can't....I've been doing this for 22 years and have been in an around people(online) who have tracked meticulously for years. Again, even if totally sedentary, bodyweight times 10 is a huge deficit for anyone. 2k is maintenance for an average female. 2.5 for the average male.

Btw, diet diaries are not proof. People underreport all the time. Either forgetting, not weighing, or not logging at all on the weekend or holidays. A metabolic ward study is, and no one has that low of a burn when they are tested without possibility of error. At least, I haven't seen anyone have such a low burn before.

@Diablo, again, if the "average" female is 150-175 lbs., then yeah, 2k works. And certainly with 2/3 of the adult American population being overweight/obese, then I guess that's about right. I've been thin (28" waist, size 2-4) for 95% of my life, so I know how to eat for my frame and appetite, and don't need to track calories. But your formula for women is off in reality, unless it's for females who work on their feet all day.

Not sure why I am discussing this with someone who wings it. You have no idea what your average calories are.

Then ask Diana 1234, Kenna Morton, etc. I gave you all their names. Ask them if they're underreporting, lying about their weight, etc. My food intake is 80% fresh fruit & veggies (yes, for giggles I did my macros once), the rest legumes, and no added sugar or processed food. Of course my calories are low.

@66Pack - so yummy looking! @-Diablo during my first years I tracked maintenance calories (the number of calories each day for a month when I did not lose any weight). I am 5' 3" tall - my maintenance is 1300 to 1400 calories to maintain 150 pounds. For me to lose weight I have to eat between 1000 and 1200 calories average, depending on how much exercise I get. I am currently at 33 percent body fat, and 25 % muscle mass at 160 pounds. 2000 calories a day average would send me to about 200 pounds pretty quickly! Not sure why you are arguing with someone who dropped a lot of weight and is maintaining by "winging it" though.

Well, my wife is 5'6", 122.3lbs (skinny fat) and on 1200 calories a day and losing a pound per week. Her maintenance is close to 1600. This will increase when she adds muscle to her frame.

@ Diablo I’ve not heard of the body weight X10 rule but with my new guy logging tactics and calorie guesstimates and estimates I’d say your pretty close. I stayed into the KETO thing during the week trucking back then but weekends were a mix of whatever just trying to stay on a LC plan. It wasn’t until I ducked under about 1900 that I knew I’d see a scale change. @ little merm No it was still warm. 👌

Yeah, totally sedentary people may need to go that low, I just don't know why you'd do that over some light exercise. 5'3", 60 years of age, and 160 pounds would have a maintenance of 1739 per day with some light exercise. https://tdeecalculator.net/result.php?s=imperial&age=60&g=female&lbs=160&in=63&act=1.375&bf=&f=1

I agree. Why sit around and starve when you can burn calories with light activity and eat more. I walk to avoid blood clots and death (close last year with PEs). By avoiding clots, I'm also earning an extra meal and losing weight doesn't feel like a "diet" at 2500+ calories a day.

You can insist as much as you like that this formula should work for women, but it doesn’t in real life. I dance, hike, and do Pilates 5 days a week, use resistance bands 4-6x/week. To maintain 128-138 lbs., I cannot go over 1700/day. Even when I trained for half marathons I didn’t eat 2000. That’s a recipe for obesity for most of the women here. There are ladies here who exercise even more than I do and they still keep it under 1200 to maintain.

I am not a moron Diablo - as an engineer I can tell you my numbers are from measured calculations as well as trial-and-error. I exercise 4 or 5 times a week, including weight lifting with a trainer. If I am averaging 1700 calories a week, I gain. That's how it works.
19 Okt 22 vom Mitglied: abbadabba
Well, you must log somewhere else since your logging on here is super poor. Looks like your average for the month is 834 calories.
19 Okt 22 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
Yes I have been working on low cal this week after plateauing/gaining over the past couple of months. 834 is as accurate as I can be with the fatsecret database
19 Okt 22 vom Mitglied: abbadabba
5 day fast this month? I am going through the months since you came back in February and there is not one month where you logged consistently. Either that or you fast for 5 days to weeks at a time. A 23 day fast last month. Idk, looks like classic binge restrict and also not logging at all. 834 calories average may also clue you in on the metabolic adaptations you may be going through causing that website to possibly not be too accurate for you.

👍😊
19 Okt 22 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
Exactly. The reason it isn't good advice is because it's hard to get adequate nutrition eating 1200 calories. Enough fat for healthy hormone and brain function, enough protein for healthy nails, hair, and lean mass retention, and enough carbs for optimal energy levels. It's hard to fit that all in and also enjoy weekends with family. It isn't sustainable for most and I really doubt anyone is really doing it for long, especially when they don't even log them.
