Yearofhealth2023's Notizen, 21 Nov 23

Vertigo journey continues. Ive been thinking and thinking about this and realized last year after hip replacement i had episodes as well if i would turn my head to look behind me and back. Thought it was related to the surgery and narcotics for the pain during recovery at the time. So first episode i can remember was last July 2022 but it eventually stopped and only happened when i turned my head to look behind. I have had syncope since a child but that’s different. I always had warning via light headedness or black spots. Usually both. What the heck. Notes for self in case i forget about last summer again. Seems to be significantly worse when rising from a prone or nearly prone position, bending over and standing up or looking skyward.

Get evaluated for benign positional vertigo...common and easily treated with the Epley Maneuver.

Sounds like what I had, benign paroxysmal vertigo (self diagnosed). It went away after I did this: from a sitting position on the ground, turn your head to one side and lay down as fast as you can. Then do it for the other side too. It got worse for a day or two, but then disappeared.

Dianne and kitten thats exactly what my doctor emailed me this am. She wants me to try the epley maneuver but i want to wait for hubs to come home so he is there because im afraid the room is going to spin so fast again. Will update. Hopefully that is what it is. Thank you guys!

You might be better served to see an otolaryngologist/audiologist first then a neurologist if necessary. You might approach this subject with your doc—- like, by the way while I’m waiting for April to come around to see the neurologist could I have a referral to an otolaryngologist to see if this may be an issue with misaligned crystals in my ears. Also, did they give you the name of a med to take for the vertigo? Lastly if this does become persistent, call your insurance patient advocate and se IF they can intervene on your behalf.

Yearofhealth, when I had vertigo it was different from what you are experiencing in that it did not come and go, it was constant. The only way I could walk was to close my eyes and let someone guide me. It was extremely bad for a week, all I could do was lie in bed and look at the ceiling, then gradually it began to fade away, but took about six weeks to go away completely. This was a long time ago, but at the time all I was told was that it was positional vertigo. I'm sure much more is known about vertigo today. I hope the cause and a permanent solution can be found soon. (Does closing your eyes when the room is spinning help?)

Dianne and kitten. This is exactly what my dr thinks. Benign position vertigo. I have done the epley maneuver twice now and second time was much better. SHIRFLEUR, no shutting my eyes still had spinning. Think dr and my FS friends have got me diagnosed. How about that. In the hospital over 8 hours with so many tests and my daughter and FS figured it out….of course they were making sure i didnt have something terminal occurring so im not mad just happy its a better diagnosis than i t could have been. Hoping it disappears entirely and soon. Thank you all again. I feel so relieved.
