HOT YOGA? YOGA? Doc is suggesting yoga as one method to add 20 min of sweat inducing workout for 20 min minimum where it is hard to breathe to help remove toxins and some other benefits having to do with blocked artery situation. Anyone have any input on this? I have never tried yoga. Keeping in mind the new hip which i can do pretty much anything with except run.

You might like Rhonda! Her YouTube is FoundMyFitness. PhD in something like physiology but makes science accessible. Re religion, that's a really niche take and imo you're not missing out.

Sherrye-i have never ever liked a sauna but am trying to follow docs advice to add 20 min to my routine of sweat inducing exercise

Not going to catch me in those things. First off, I don't think I have the ability to contort enough to get them on. And even if I did, I'm thinking hot won't be the first thought anyone has. No way. Not for me. I don't care how comfortable people say they are.

Ok, looked it up, thank goodness it’s Fahrenheit when people do it!!!

Love Vinyasa/Ashtanga yoga as well as Hatha yoga. Not a fan of hot yoga as I believe it puts unwarranted pressure on the lungs,

Same here laine! I always thought hot yoga was a yoga with more erotic poses. It’s like finding out there’s no Santa clause all over again…

Supergainz, I knew the word “hot” was talking about the temperature of the room 😂, but, I thought it might be more extreme…like even hotter…because extreme things can be so trendy lol. I guess heating a room voluntarily, to that temperature, which doesn’t sound so extreme since it’s Fahrenheit lol, is a different kind of heat than just being in a room that temperature without AC in summer? Because that doesn’t sound crazy…who hasn’t been in a room that temperature in summer, same as outdoors? Maybe it’s intense enough yoga to get hot while you do it as though it were cardio…

I used to do yoga back in the day, it is very relaxing!!! Doesn’t even really seem like exercise. I have never done hot yoga, but I can say that yoga helped a lot with my anxiety.

I loved going to hot yoga but I enjoy hot temperatures ! It adds an extra element to regular yoga for me and the heat helps me stretch further.

I just don’t understand what makes hot yoga extreme…who hasn’t been in a room that temperature just because it was summer, no AC, before? It’s probably different when the room is literally heated up to that temperature though…right?

*I’ve never been to hot yoga so I’m curious.

I’ve never been to hot yoga, but my neighbor has. He says he feels amazing after.

What about a regular sauna (wood fire based is best). Our culture has a long tradition of sauna + beating with a "viht" which is a bundle of branches to help remove toxins and promote circulation.

Oh, @Annisworkingonit is right: if a child hasn't birch-whipped you leaving marks, you haven't experienced sauna! Best overlooking woods with highland cattle and finished with a snack of smoked nahkianen; does FS have an entry for that? 🙀

@craigysgafn - looked it up....yup smoked eel is on FS (a Christmas treat in our culture but hard to come by these days) our sauna tradition involved either jumping into cold water or rolling in the snow (season dependent)

YOH, you have to be careful with any poses that involve crossing that hip over your body with too much weight as it could theoretically pop out of joint. That said, any good instructor will have modifications.

Wow. Interesting thread here…

@Annisworkingonit I've only had them from a roadside smokehouse in November, wasn't aware of holiday aspect. Certainly a treat!
