not really sure how to answer the question..when i first started riding 4-5 years ago..i started out with a hand me down walmart bike..that when i met my friend and we started talking about bikes..he told me that when i was ready to get my next bike he would go with me to a bike store..as months passed..even though i was improving my riding ..i couldnt keep up with mike when it came to riding..difference in bikes..difference in riding skills..first bike i bout with mike was a trek cruiser..it weighed in at 35 pounds..cause i was heavy an didnt know what i wanted..bike owner suggest it to be the right bike for me...and it was at the time..but i just never was happy cause i thought the bike made the speed...wrong..the speed comes from conditioning your body..sure some bikes are made to go faster..but you have to be able to peddle..or shift into the right gear..as well..i traded the crusier in on my cannondale road bike..it weighs 20.02 pounds..more i rode better i got..each bike the weight has gotten less..when i got my trek emonda sl6..i was looking for a carbon bike..its 17.01 pounds..again a lighter bike..and seems to handle even better then the cannondale..but regardless of what bike..its all about being able to peddle..shift gears at the right time your climbing hills, or going down hills..riding out in the country an riding up or down hills is whats gonna make you a better rider..yes the bike does help some..the cannondale is a 10 speed..the trek is an 11 speed with a different gear set up on back wheel..other then that both bikes are almost set up same way..so as to your question..i really think im putting more miles in because my legs are getting stronger from riding away from just flat roads..sure its an easier ride..but it was getting boring seeing the same territory all the time...out in country...longer straight aways..can build up speed to get more miles in ...faster you can ride..more miles you can put in to same amount of time...
