Ahhhhh... I slept like a ROCK.

Yesterday was crazy busy, but extremely productive, at work. I was stressing as I had a few sick days last week and felt that I was way behind on work. When you have deadlines coming up at the end of the month, and you need to send out letters to people about them, and it's already the 29th, then you really need to get going. :/

I got it ALL done yesterday, and then some, and I can tell that I bought myself a good chunk of peace of mind on that account. It's nice, I feel that I can go in and do some of the OTHER stuff today, and not be in panic mode.

I never got around to listening to my music yesterday - I simply had too much to do and I needed to concentrate too much to be wanting to check out new music. It's still sitting there on my phone waiting to be enjoyed.

My buddies Dani and JP wanted to know what I'm gonna be listening to.

Well, I got my grabby little hands on new albums from Joe Bonamassa, Halestorm, Walter Trout, Jack White, Slash (though I've heard this one a few times already - just as last album it's brilliant!), and Tedeschi Trucks Band - pretty much a little of everything new in rock. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear the new Rush album, but I have to wait a little longer for that one.

Also, I'm listening a LOT to a handful of old rockers that I'm trying to learn on bass. So far I'm doing great playing them. Maybe I should do a video one day of my rehearsal - I just gotta work out how to record and sync - it'd be a fun challenge, actually. I might try that on for size.

The reason I'm learning different stuff on bass is that I got an invite to play with a couple of guys a few towns over. They're doing a little cover band - nothing too serious other than a good time, and they're wanting to play Whitesnake, Deep Purple and other old school hard rock.

Now, I LOVE playing with The Black Peanut, and there's no way I'd ever let that go, but my heart is really in the other style of music, and it's a blast playing it. It's a cool challenge and it'll push my bass playing talents further along. So I've decided to go jam with them now and then, just to have a good time. I think I can manage both.

One of the songs that we're gonna play is Burn, by Deep Purple. Now THAT is a challenge - and I think I'm getting the easy part on that one. Check it out:

I know. This is NOT Deep Purple. It's Whitesnake. There are no real cool versions of DP performing it with good sound online, so I opted for this one. It totally rocks though, and this is the attitude I'd like to see in my optimal band. :)

If you asked me my favorite 5 songs, this would be one of them.

It's gonna be a busy time, the future. Work, teaching rock music for the kids, teaching a weight loss class, and playing in two (well, one and a half) bands. Damn. It's fun though, and that's what life is all about, right?

So, how did I do on my eating habits yesterday?

I think I did good. I was definitely not as high in calories as I could have allowed myself to be, but that's a good thing. Snack was a smoothie, frozen fruit and 0.5% milk, nothing worth mentioning. I didn't exercise, but I did play bass for a total of 2 hours, and I was standing up my entire work day. It all burns calories, and I think I was reasonably close to my 3000 calories burner per day goal.

It will be the same "exercise" today. I really want to know to play these songs by heart for Saturday, so I can better enjoy the jam. It's important to me. So the bike will have to wait a little bit. It's not like I'm not moving at all, I am doing plenty of little activities that all add up. It's all good, I think.

I love the way that I've set up my little corner in our guest room, bass guitars (and electric guitars), my effects board, amps, and a set of great headphones, so I can really crank it up without bugging the neighbors.

So, my friends, I better get going. I gotta learn to play another Deep Purple song this morning - Perfect Strangers. Another top 5 song for me. :)

Today I'm thankful for:

- playing music.
- morning coffee.
- a good night's sleep.
- new music.
- ROCK AND ROOL! :)

Life is good.

Glad you got a good nights sleep.... Amazing how much work overload affects us - it's a bit of a viscious circle. Too much work = restless nights = not so effective at work = restless night. Glad you broke that cycle. When i was working, I nearly always slept pretty well, on the occasions I was über stressed, I would get up and sit by our pond and listen to the sound of the waterfall, with a cup of tea - I found it pretty relaxing - and could usually, go back to bed and sleep then. Your new music venture with someone different, sounds cool..... Variety is the spice of life.... So they say :-)

I love Perfect Strangers. That cassette got wore out by me in the 80's. I remember sitting in a truck stop in Georgia on I-95 and "listening" to that cassette and doing illegal things. lol. Good times.

Sounds like good times indeed, JP. IMO there isn't many bands better out there than Deep Purple. They have/had everything - it's symphonic, melodic, heavy, and kicks some rear! :) It's a blast to play also.

Isn't it interesting how you hear a word or learn about something new and it seems to pop up all over the place? My friend was wearing a Tedeschi Trucks Band shirt on Sunday, and since then I've either read about them or heard them at least two other times. Fun :)

sjcoray, you should check them out. Their new live album is really great. It has an amazing vibe that you rarely hear from anyone these days. Old school rock with a lot of soul.

Ever heard of "Animals as Leaders" We just saw them this past weekend and they are incredible. 8-String Guitarists and a sick drummer!
