momma6224's Notizen, 17 Mai 18

I went to the gym for the first time last night! It was terrifying haha but I did it! The trainer was fairly useless...she just told me to do the 30 min express workout machines, demonstrated them a little and left me to fend for myself. I thought she’d write up an exercise schedule/plan for me to help me get where I want to be. No such luck. So I stayed and did 2 rounds of the 30 min express workout and used a few other machines. I’m sore today so it must have done some good. I hope to make it there 2-3 times a week to help tone and build some muscle. I’ll do my elliptical and ab workout at home a couple times a week and with any luck, get this old body in the best shape it’s ever been in 😁. Have a great day everyone!!

What you'll likely see is the trainer become more hands on as you progress. The know they can terrify you right out of the gate. As you can see, your muscles are already feeling the difference. Stick with it. I believe you'll see more guidance as you progress, though with machines a little more guidance as to technique might be in order. If something legitimately hurts, rather than is due, especially during the without, go get the trainer and see if she/he had suggestions. Huh. Suddenly in my mind she/he has another meaning. Crazy world.

Thank you!! I’ll do that. I felt a little lost but did my best

With the express setups, you don't have to think about anything except your weights and your reps - no need to go here or there. The setups make it easy for a beginner to get started. Good luck!

There are good trainers and bad trainers. If after another week she's not meeting your expectations (and you're paying for her service) let her go and find someone else. I've had absolutely horrible trainers and phenomenal trainers. Worlds of difference and it's not always related to price. You need someone who can communicate both ways and will 1) push you and 2) make sure you're doing exercises right through all of the reps, not here's the machine, go for it while I look at my instagram account.

Sounds like a lazy trainer. U didn’t pay for that did you?

@DEADPOOL, you're seeing what I'm seeing. Just fire this trainer. I was being nice, but your first session is where the relationship begins. Find someone that's able to engage with you Momma.

I’m not sure this is normal or if I should have expected more...I went to planet fitness and just signed up for the one time trainer session. It says they design a personal workout program for you. My daughter went as well and we both paid $35 for the 20 minutes she spent with us together! I felt ripped off but wasn’t 100% sure what the training session should include?? I’ll have to call and ask them. Thanks

congrats on going to the gym! good luck with it truly. google on exercising machines, reps, etc. youtube it also.

It's not normal as far as a quality training session. In my humble opinion, it was a paid job interview for the trainer and she failed miserably. You should have gotten a discussion about goals and a plan. As far as actual training, she should have shown you (on the machine) how to use each one safely and effectively. Especially since you paid for that.

@momma6224 If it’s $35 per session, and there isn’t any intelligently designed routine, nutritional/diet planning, focus on consistent progression, & information/knowledge given to you so you understand it... If it’s just “do this & this, see you next week” without improvement/progression, or at worse, random crap thrown in there & you end up paying for it... Then that’s what I call a rip off.

FWIW, I'm not coming down on trainers or going to the gym. It's an absolutely transformational opportunity. You just got a bad one, call and ask for another while detailing your disappointment. I'm still good friends with two of my best trainers. We all moved on in life (jobs, babies, moves), and they can be phenomenal catalysts for changing one's life. I feel that so strongly, in fact, that I'm going to reach out to one of them right now for me.

First, good for going to the gym and even being sore! You worked at it although be careful you do not get TOO sore! Second, when you PAY for a trainer that person is yours for the full time you purchased and if you ask there can be conversation about a home program, etc. I have had trainers before (Fitness 19, 24 hr fitness, and now Anytime Fitness) and they DO focus just on YOU if that is what you paid for! Let management know and if you use a trainer on an on-going basis, find one you feel good about and clarify expectations. Sort of like physical therapy. I like the ones who stay and watch and not bounce off to chat.

That's disappointing about the training. Like everyone else has said, I'd at least call the manager there and tell them what happened. You hate for others to be treated the same way by the trainer and keep paying for it. Good for you for getting out of your comfort zone and doing the workout though!! I hope you like the gym and find success in your plan!

Congrats on going to the gym! I am really proud of you for overcoming that obstacle! If you didn't like that trainer maybe you can ask for another one. That is a real bummer that they weren't good.

Ditto above comments re the "trainer", if you find the right person you'll know, good luck!!

Oh BTW momma, elliptical and ab workouts at home are awesome, what about free weights or TRX at home too?
17 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: Steven Lloyd
Thanks everyone for the advice...it’s good to know I wasn’t expecting too much 😉 Steven: I’d have no idea what to do with free weights?? And what is TRX?😬

Better to ditch the trainer and research a workout routine from the Internet. Really, there is only two things to remember. 1. To maintain / loose weight: low weight - high reps 2. To build muscle: Heavier weight - lower reps.

You're not old... we (Southerners) prefer the term "seasoned".
17 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: From371to184
Yes, very seasoned😁 haha I feel old today after that workout. I’m definitely sore
