13 days til Christmas. Cards ordered, many but not all gifts purchased, decorating started, invites for Christmas dinner made.... so moving right along:)! And, one more thing to smile about -- still at goal! Note to self -- I can take care of myself while taking care of the holiday!
With the holiday quickly approaching & being so far behind because of my travels, it's made me think about the real meaning of Christmas. If I don't get every Christmas decoration up this year, will the holiday be ruined? Will anyone even notice... anyone of any importance? (I had to add that because like all of us, I have that 1 friend/relative who always finds something to be critical of.) If the Christmas cards don't arrive until Dec 24... or Dec 26, will it spoil everything? Or, will it give us all a laugh/something to talk about in the new year? And, if I purchase some of the Christmas dinner instead of making it all from scratch, will our guests be appalled... will they refuse to eat?
We/I put so much pressure on ourselves to make everything perfect, but isn't what makes the holiday perfect just being with family & friends? And, for those of us who struggle with weight & eating issues, this time is doubly stressful because we're also putting pressure on ourselves to eat & exercise perfectly during this time. Perfectionism... it is an issue for me (year round) & maybe others too... possibly part of a new years resolution!?!
So, for the remainder of this holiday season, I'm going to keep reminding myself of what's really important during the holidays -- enjoying time with family & friends -- and let the rest fall into play. And, I will continue praying, journaling, logging & breathing one day, meal, minute, card, gift, ornament & decoration at a time -- a possibly imperfect, but family & friends oriented time!
