got back from some of my leave of absence from work (had doctor's appointments). went from home to cloverdale CA, to Eureka, Cresent city, Grant's pass OR, Medford, back down to Yreka CA, over to lassen National Park theen home(1000+ miles)
along the way passed through the burn zone of CA rancho fire
Spent several nights in backpacking (ok, maybe it was just 1/2 mile into the camp site, but I hadn't done anything like this in decades)
realized what works, what shape I'm in (BTW, fruit (apple/pear) isn't a shape to be in for this stuff, need more work there...)
The currents along the coast keep the temps between 40-60's day and night but the for rolls in at sunset (making me wish for an RV or hotel) for how DANG DAMP everything gets.
In Lassen the sweet lake I was going to hike into (about 3 miles) was cancelled because they've started getting night temps into the 20's
(I think the 7000' elevation played apart in that, and well, it IS OCTOBER!) and I'm not equipped for that kind of cold...damp and chilly yes, bone cold...nope.
Lost 5 lbs along the way...
getting ready to head out again...car camp and day hikes this time...

my "flak", civil war hardtack using flax meal instead of flour, with a dash baking powder to fluff it up a bit...for camping/backpacking.

on leave of absence from work, going to lookup old friends, travel and see if I can find family.
in mean time tried baking...I call it flak, a civil war hard-rock recipe where I used flax meal instead of flour and a dash of baking powder to fluff it a bit.
